Japan National Route 6 Map T-Shirt | Nihonbashi Tokyo to Sendai | Pacific Coast Route
About This Product
An original route map T-shirt by Hasegawa Shizen Kobo featuring Japan National Route 6, which runs north along the Pacific side of Japan from Nihonbashi in Tokyo to Sendai City in Miyagi Prefecture.
National Route 6 begins at Nihonbashi in Chuo City, Tokyo, and continues through Chiba, Ibaraki, and Fukushima Prefectures before reaching Sendai City in Miyagi Prefecture. Connecting Tokyo with cities such as Mito, Iwaki, and Soma, it is one of the important trunk roads linking the Kanto and Tohoku regions along the Pacific coast.
This T-shirt is not simply a design created by tracing Route 6 from map data.
The design is based on the creator’s own experience of actually driving National Route 6 from Nihonbashi in Tokyo to Sendai, observing the towns, scenery, and changing character of the road firsthand.
Leaving the urban area behind, the route crosses the Kanto Plain, continues through Ibaraki and Fukushima, and then heads north along the Pacific side into Miyagi Prefecture.
This T-shirt was created from the desire to preserve that long journey as a single wearable map.
About the Design
The front features the National Route 6 route from Nihonbashi, Tokyo to Sendai City, placed over a map of Japan.
The starting point, destination, and points along the route are represented together with road-sign-inspired elements, allowing you to view the long-distance journey from Tokyo to Sendai as one complete map.
After leaving Nihonbashi, National Route 6 travels northeast through Tokyo, passes through Chiba Prefecture, and enters Ibaraki Prefecture.
From there, it continues north from Mito along the Pacific side, passing through areas such as Iwaki, the Futaba region, and Soma in Fukushima Prefecture before entering Miyagi Prefecture and reaching Sendai.
One of the defining characteristics of this route is that it travels north along the Pacific side from the Kanto region into Tohoku.
The scenery changes greatly along the way, from urban roads to suburban areas and regions close to the coast.
By driving the long route, you can experience the different character of each region through its towns, landscapes, and roads.
In Fukushima Prefecture, some sections of National Route 6 were affected by long-term traffic restrictions following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
Road access conditions have changed gradually over the years.
Driving National Route 6 today is therefore more than simply taking a long road trip. It can also be a journey that reflects the recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake and the changes that have taken place in the surrounding communities.
By actually driving the road, I was able to experience details that cannot be understood from a map alone—the atmosphere of the road, changes in the towns, and the distinct character of each area.
Rather than showing “National Route 6 on a map,” this design preserves “the National Route 6 I actually drove.”
That idea became the foundation of this original route map T-shirt by Hasegawa Shizen Kobo.
It is recommended for those who love national highways, long-distance drives, motorcycle touring, roads connecting Tokyo and Tohoku, and anyone who understands the unique pleasure of traveling by road.
