About the Design

The design is based on the vertically arranged kanji “群馬,” rendered in a bold style inspired by traditional Japanese brush calligraphy.

The natural outlines, sweeping strokes, and textured character of the brush lettering are preserved, while imagery representing Gunma’s nature, hot springs, and agricultural scenery is incorporated within the characters.

Inside the upper character, “群,” the left side features scenery inspired by Kusatsu Onsen, while the right side features imagery inspired by Oze.

The Kusatsu Onsen section includes elements such as the Yubatake hot spring field, traditional wooden buildings, and rising steam, expressing the warmth and lively atmosphere of one of Japan’s best-known hot spring towns.

The Oze section features broad wetlands, waterside scenery, distant mountains, and wooden boardwalks stretching across the marshland, creating a sense of openness and natural beauty.

Inside the lower character, “馬,” the upper portion features a landscape inspired by Mt. Haruna as seen from Lake Haruna, while the lower portion represents konjac fields.
